Jing Ping Mei, the 9-line 3Win8 slot built on a Ming novel
Nine lines, a scroll of rules and characters from a 400-year-old novel. Jing Ping Mei on 3Win8 has a different engine from most of the app's slots.
Jin Ping Mei is a Ming dynasty novel, and 3Win8 spelled it Jing Ping Mei. The old page summed up its plot in a single leering sentence. The game itself is tamer than that: a Chinese interior of carved lattice windows, tea sets, fans and carts, with the characters mostly peeking out from behind the furniture.
A different frame
Three 3Win8 slots on this site, Indian Myth, Japan Fortune and Jin Lian Xing Ye, share a 50-line frame with a wild on reel 3. This one is built differently. It has nine lines, numbered 1 to 9 on the left edge, and bronze buttons at the bottom labelled Select Line, Line Bet, Max Bet and Auto Play, with a big Spin key in the corner. Grand, Major and Minor counters sit across the top.
The rules scroll
The help page reads like a cast list. Primary roles are Pan Jin-Lien, Li Ping-Er and Pon Chuen-Mai. Secondary roles are Wu Da-Lang plus props: jewellery boxes, a pipa, scrolls, a sesame seed spread, a small fan, a window shade, combs, wine and a mirror. Three bonus games are named: free spins, the Secret Box round and the Send Her A Gift round. Wins count from the left of each line, the highest win per line is paid, and the total is line bet times the odds on each line.
In one of the old screens three Wu Da-Lang portraits landed across the top row and paid a 0.06 scatter win on a 0.02 bet (two lines at 0.01). That spin isn't shown here, but it tells you he's the scatter.
